I'm a professional data scientist with a passion for solving complex problems
and the skills to tackle just about every part of the machine learning pipeline—whether it's architecting models, deploying full-stack solutions, or
translating technical insights into actionable business decisions (without
the buzzwords).
A Quick Backstory
I completed my master's degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in
Johannesburg, where I specialized in 3D fossil segmentation using vision
transformers and active learning—because who doesn't love a good mix of
machine learning and ancient history?
The Tech Stuff
I like to think of myself as a fast learner with a versatile toolbox, but
Python and PyTorch are my go-tos. With a strong foundation in both
theoretical computer science and software development, I've built end-to-end
full-stack applications and can take a machine learning solution from messy
data to production-ready. I also enjoy diving deep into the math behind
algorithms to bridge the gap between abstract business needs and working
models.
Leadership & Beyond
In 2023, I was awarded the TFG Data Science and Leadership Fellowship for my
master's research and stayed on to work with them afterward. Beyond that,
I've always enjoyed leadership roles—serving as the Chairperson of
Management for the Johannesburg Junior Council and Vice Chairperson for the
Wits Yacht Club taught me how to lead with empathy and a steady hand, even
when the waters get rough.
Life Outside of Data
When I'm not optimizing models, you'll probably find me sailing, hiking, or
capturing moments through photography. I'm also a guitarist who loves
picking up random new skills—because who says hobbies can't be a little
chaotic?
